1) export ACT to csv

Exporting ACT! data to a .CSV file

The instructions shown below are for ACT! 2000. If the steps provided do not match the version you are using, please refer to the Help menu that is provided with ACT!

To export ACT! data

  1. From the main menu in ACT!, click File » Data Exchange » Export.

  2. The Export wizard opens.

  3. In the File type field, select Text – Delimited.

  4. Specify a file location and file name with a .CSV extension. For example, the file name and location may be similar to, C:\Act\Database\Export.csv.

  5. Click Next.

  6. Since it is assumed that you are importing the name and address details of the contact records stored in the ACT! database, select Contact records only, and then click Options.

  7. Complete the following:

    • Select the Comma option button in the Select field separator section.

    • Select the Yes, export field names check box in the Do you want to export field names section.

    • Click OK to return to the wizard.

  8. Click Next.

  9. Select All records and click Finish.

2) import csv into OUTLOOK

Before you import Contacts.csv into Outlook, you must create headers for the CSV file:

  1. Open the file in Excel.
  2. Click 1 to select the first row, click Insert, and then click Rows.
  3. In the first row that you just created, starting with cell A1 and continuing across to cell T1, enter the following fields to create header names for each column:
    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • Title
    • Company
    • Work
    • Home
    • Other
    • E-mail
    • Address
    • City
    • State
    • ZIP Code
    • Country
    • Custom 1
    • Custom 2
    • Custom 3
    • Custom 4
    • Note
    • Private
    • Category
  4. Click File, and then click Save.

To import contacts from a CSV file into Outlook:

  • Select File | Import and Export… from the menu in Outlook.
  • Make sure Import from another program or file is highlighted.
  • Click Next >.
  • Now make sure Comma Separated Values (Windows) is selected.
  • Click Next >.
  • Use the Browse … button the select the desired file.
  • Typically, choose Do not import duplicate items.
  • Click Next >.
  • Select the Outlook folder you want to import the contacts to. This will usually be your Contacts folder.
  • Click Next >.
  • Click Map Custom Fields ….
  • Make sure all columns from the CSV file are mapped to the desired Outlook address book fields.
    • You can create new mappings by dragging the column title to the desired field.
    • Any previous mapping of the same column will be replaced with the new.
  • Click OK.
  • Now click Finish.

3) import csv to PALM

first you must create headers for the CSV file:

  1. Open the file in Excel.
  2. Click 1 to select the first row, click Insert, and then click Rows.
  3. In the first row that you just created, starting with cell A1 and continuing across to cell T1, enter the following fields to create header names for each column:
    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • Title
    • Company
    • Work
    • Home
    • Other
    • E-mail
    • Address
    • City
    • State
    • ZIP Code
    • Country
    • Custom 1
    • Custom 2
    • Custom 3
    • Custom 4
    • Note
    • Private
    • Category
  4. Click File, and then click Save.
  1. go into your palm Desktop software. Select File -> Import…
  2. Again, under the “Files of type:” select “Comma Separated (*.csv, *.txt)” and open the file you just saved (PalmAddress.csv).
  3. You should see a window similar to this (if you are running the same version of Palm Desktop – this is version 3.1)
  4. Follow the directions to match up the available fields in your CSV file. After aligning them, my window now looks like this:
  5. Press the [OK] button and Viola!
